Optimization of fermentation parameters with magnetically immobilized Bacillus natto on Ginkgo seeds and evaluation of bioactivity and safety

Abstract In this study, magnetically immobilized Bacillus natto fermentation approach was developed on Ginkgo seeds. Some parameters potentially influencing the fibrinolytic activity of fermented Ginkgo seeds were systematically investigated and optimized by Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken designs, and the optimum fermentation conditions obtained were 60 mesh particle size, 150 rpm stirring rate, fermentation pH 6.5, 43.0 h fermentation time, 36.4 °C temperature, 16.4 mL/g liquid-solid ratio and 1.0 g/g beads-solid ratio. Urea as a thinning agent in olive: The influence of concentration and time of application

Urea was tested as chemical thinner on olive cv. Nocellara del Belice using three concentrations (2, 4 and 6%) applied at full bloom (FB), FB + 10 and FB + 20 days. Urea reduced fruit set significantly only when applied at FB + 20 days, the fruitlet stage. Final fruit set was reduced by about 50% compared with the untreated control (6% FB + 20 days). Crop load and fruit characteristics were both affected by the treatments.

Oxygenation of malignant tumors after localized microwave hyperthermia

The oxyhemoglobin saturation (HbO2) of single red blood cells within tumor microvessels (diameter: 3-12 micrometers) of DS-Carcinosarcoma was studied using a cryophotometric micromethod. In untreated control tumors (mean tissue temperature approx. 35 degrees C) the measured values scattered over the whole saturation range from zero to 100 sat. %, the mean being 51 sat. %. Upon heating at 40 degrees C for 30 min, the oxygenation of the tumor tissue significantly improved as compared with control conditions. Objectives: This study evaluated the in vivo effectiveness of Universal Dentin Sealant (UDS), a new resin-based material, as dentinal desensitizing agent on dentin morphology and clinical symptoms. Materials and methods: Thirty premolars, exhibiting non-carious cervical lesions, and scheduled for extraction for periodontal reasons, were selected for the ultrastructural study. Although recent research has demonstrated that clays provide satisfactory control of some agricultural insect pests, the effect of clays on gall wasps that damage forest trees has not been previously reported. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the clay kaolin in the laboratory and in the field in reducing the damage caused by the eulophid Ophelimus maskelli (Ashmead) on seedlings of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus L'Hér.) species.
